The Symphony No. 43 in E-flat major, Hoboken I/43, is a symphony by Joseph Haydn. Since the nineteenth century it has been referred to by the subtitle "Mercury".〔Antony Hodgson, ''The Music of Joseph Haydn: The Symphonies''. London: The Tantivy Press (1976): 72〕 The symphony was composed by 1771. It is scored for two oboes, bassoon, two horns and strings.〔H. C. Robbins Landon, ''The Symphonies of Joseph Haydn''. London: Universal Edition & Rockliff (1955): 680.〕 The work is in four movements: #Allegro, 3/4 #Adagio, 2/4 #Menuet & Trio, 3/4 #Allegro, 2/2 H. C. Robbins Landon describes the slow movement "as a chamber symphony opens with muted strings". It is the only movement of any of Haydn's symphonies to be in the key of A flat major. ==See also==
